Pop Chinn Stew. That's what Ken called his circumstantial evidence case he tried in 1983 as a young Deputy DA. I listened as he painted a wonderful word picture of his father putting together various ingredients to make a delicious pot of stew. It's been 30 years but that image of his father making the stew hasn't left my mind. In honor of Ken's dad, Vernon Chinn, we want to make some Chinn Stew of our own. Stop by from time to time and enjoy some Chinn Stew as we share some of our family happenings.

Who! What! Where!

After home school each day, the kids and I get on the free shuttle to go on one of our many field trips or just for a fun trip into town. The charter-bus-like shuttle leaves every hour (every 3o mins during the school year) and stops service about midnight.  The 30 minute ride takes us through three major neighborhoods to its final stop in Downtown Pohang.  This is where we like to explore: the open air market, the "fun street" with a man-made stream down the middle, dozens of boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops that appeal to the young and old, and so much more.  At times, we've gotten off midway to go to a park, a museum, or tend to business at the immigration office or the hospital.  For us, the shuttle is our means of getting to many, many adventures with the ride itself being an adventure.  Friends have suggested purchasing a car to maximize our time.  A car would give us freedom and flexibility to explore more and more efficiently within our given year  We took their advice and brought the funds but I am "not so secretly" hoping to pass on the car.  Lack of that convenience may force us to find other creative means of exploring Korea.  I have a feeling I may lose this one though.

Below are a few pictures of couple of our trips into town.
We see a great deal of the beautiful tree lined roads before we get into the neighborhoods.

 Rice paddies.

On the shuttle to and from town.
Rain is just another opportunity for more fun.  Water and umbrellas are their new weapons.
Filling an umbrella bag with water to throw at Daniel.  No Robert.  Awwww mom!
We heard a loud air siren then everything and everyone came to a halt.  Unfolding before us was a civil emergency exercise in case of a war.  The deafening silence was eery and sobering as I was reminded of the unfriendly terms between North and South Korea.

We picked a wrong day to go to POMA (a steel art museum) but it didn't matter because fun can be had anywhere.  Slap, slap, clap, clap, snap, snap while walking; slap, slap, clap, clap, snap, snap waiting for the signal.

Inside view will have to wait for a return trip but there were many interesting sculptures outside.

Mom, can we take off our shoes?  Uh huh.  Oh, Daniel . . . too late.  I foolishly thought they just wanted to get their feet wet.  Daniel is the dark shadow in the middle.
 Drippy wet!
I think someone was confused.

 Open air market.
Fresh fish section.  Dozens of similar stores with live lobsters, crabs and so many types of fish we lost count.

 Mary's Crab Dance!
 Korean pastries!
They found some candy!  Elysabeth is in the front.  She came for a two day visit.
The Foursome walking down the "Fun Street!"
