Pop Chinn Stew. That's what Ken called his circumstantial evidence case he tried in 1983 as a young Deputy DA. I listened as he painted a wonderful word picture of his father putting together various ingredients to make a delicious pot of stew. It's been 30 years but that image of his father making the stew hasn't left my mind. In honor of Ken's dad, Vernon Chinn, we want to make some Chinn Stew of our own. Stop by from time to time and enjoy some Chinn Stew as we share some of our family happenings.

Update from Ken, 8-11-12

 Hi all,
We arrived safe and sound last night from our flight to Korea on Asiana airlines.  I couldn't recommend them higher.  My first sign that it might be a pleasant flight was the absence of a flight attendant with a cattle prod that is standard issue on United flights.  The seats in economy were comfortable with adequate legroom.  United designs its seats for people under 5'4".  If your taller than that, United will upgrade you to an exit row for an extra fee.  Despite our flight being full, the service was nice throughout the flight.  I arrived much more rested than a simple trans US flight. Asiana is a Korean run airline and was a nice introduction to what we had in store on our arrival at Incheon Airport in Seoul.  The water fountains are motion activated and everything seems wired over here for the internet.  We dropped over 20 stuffed bags of luggage at the airport with a service that will deliver the whole 500 lbs of luggage to our apartment at the University some 6 hours south of Seoul for a total charge of $120.  What a life saver that was.

Elysabeth and Mark were at the airport to greet us and help with the mountain of luggage.  What a wonderful reunion in Korea.  We caught a bus to their apartment in the heart of a quaint little neighborhood of apartments and stores off the main drag.  Surprisingly there was a large amount of graffiti which is unusual for Korea - probably due to its proximity to a large American base. This morning we took off on a walk to the river to get acquainted with the city.  It is very muggy and warm - the end of the monsoon season.  I was glad to get back to the apartment for a cold drink and a seat under their new air conditioner!

We are very happy to be here.  Tomorrow we climb on a bullet train for the trip south.  We'll transfer to a commuter train and a taxi van for the last part of the journey.  On Monday we start a two day faculty retreat with classes starting the following Monday.  It will be a couple of busy weeks getting acclimated to the new routine teaching in Korea.  Tonight we're off to a restaurant in Seoul that doesn't make you sit on the floor.

More later when we get the family blog up and running.
